Gotta Feel Good
You have to feel good after reading Bill's latest book. Like his earlier efforts, this story takes you up above the small everyday problems of your own life, and let's you see what's really important.

Read it if you are sick, read it if you are well....just read it. You won't be the same after your done, you'll be better.

Flying Squirrels of America Unite!!!
I picked up this book because of my interest in flying squirrels and was pleasantly surprised by the inspiration it imparted. I was unable to put it down and read it while my flying squirrel, Chuck, tasted a page or two himself. I had previously read "The Luckiest Unlucky Man Alive" and found Bill Goss' current book to be even more fasinating.
This is a "must read" book for anyone interested in the therapeutic effects a loving creature can have on "his human". Inspiring, educational and down right fun ... don't miss it!

Fantastic reading for young and old
I'm not the kind of person to just decide one day that I'm going to read a book just for the heck of it. I have to be pushed and prodded to do it (or assigned by my English teacher). My dad obtained a copy of this book and just from reading the title and cover I was interested. I picked up the book one night and instead of placing it down after a few chapters, I had to read the entire thing. It kept me interested throughout the entire book, which is a rare quality of literature these days. This book is both inspirational, but not in a make-you-wanna cry kinda way. It gave me hope for the future, in a semi-humorous way. His writing style is excellent for readers of all ages, and reading preferences.

Beyond Survival
Published in Paperback by Berkley Pub Group (February, 1991)
Author: Gerald Coffee

Inspirational
I had an opportunity to hear Dr. Coffee speak in California this past summer. To say he left the room speechless was an understatement. Inspiration, patriotism and an acknowledgment of our God were messages he left with us.

The book goes into great detail about the spirit of man and the strength that lies within each of us. His years spent in North Vietnam as a POW and the indomitable spirit required to survive unheard of torture is an incredible tale. Dr. Coffee states that he is an ordinary man much like everyone else - he merely endured extraordinary circumstances. I think not!

This book should be required reading in our high schools. To hear Dr. Coffee speak or to read his book will make one proud to be an American. I strongly urge you all to read this uplifting and incredible saga of an incredible human being.

An Example of How Powerful The "Will To Survive" Can Be.
Gerald Coffee really goes "Beyond Survival" with his seven years of POW experience in a North Vietnamese Prison, (the infamous "Hanoi Hilton") during the Viet-Nam War. Just when I thought things could not get any worse for Coffee, they did. Broken and beaten he continues to survive one day to the next by maintaining his faith in God and a belief that the US Government would someday come to his assistance. Father, Husband, Soldier, and Hero, his story struck deep in my heart. He is an inspiration to all of us to "make each day count".

An ordinary superman
What would you do if everything you hold dear was forcibly taken away? Jerry Coffee had that happen to him in North Viet Nam. After being shot down and wounded, he spends years in torturous conditions in Hanoi prisons. One thing that moved me most was the fact that even though he was confined alone in a tiny cell, he still gave himself so many chores and educational assignments to perform (such as studying French) that on some days he was unable to finish all of his tasks. Now that is optimism!

The Book of Green Tea
Published in Paperback by Storey Books (December, 1998)
Author: Diana Rosen
Average review score:

Experience Therapy in a Cup
Amazon shows you the table of contents. From that table you can see the theme of the book. To add to this the back cover mentions: . How to blend, brew, and appreciate more than 120 varieties of green tea . Up-to date information on the health benefits of drinking green tea . Recipes for cooking with green tea and making green tea bodycare products . Rich green tea history, poetry, lore, and tradition from around the world The book has pictures along with descriptions of green teas that look almost identical but are different. There are pictures of tea paraphernalia and locations of tea origins. You see tea bags tea glasses and even the chemical formula for tea. After you get past that there are many practical recipes involving green tea; any one of which makes is worth the price of the book.

Packed with information.....
I found this book very useful while doing research for my online tea shop. I found a great deal of useful information and it is presented clearly and elegantly. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to know more about green tea.

Everything you never knew you could know about Green Tea!
I picked up this book because I was looking for a source of "recipes" for soaps and other bad items using green tea, and was pleasantly surprised to find it's a veritable encyclopedia of information on green tea. I was already fairly well-versed in the various "cultures" of green tea in China and Japan, and the author does a nice job of summarizing this for the reader, including not just various ways to prepare it, but also giving a quick primer on the needed utensils. Finally, the green tea ice cream recipe is a keeper (though I cut the number of egg yolks from 3 to 5, and leave out the lemon rind, nutmeg, and half the vanilla which overpower the delicate green tea flavor). Great all-around book on a product that's as healthy as it is enjoyable.

A most phenominal resource, and beautifully presented!
Saw this book on the counter of a wonderful new tea shop in Boston, and stayed for two hours reading. The comprehensive coverage of tea, history, ritual, and legacy is just terrific. The text is only surpassed by the well chosen photos, paintings and images. Flammarion needs to bring back this extraordinary tribute to tea!

wonderful book, wonderful images
This isn't a review in the strict sense of the word, I would just like to say that if there is any way to nag Flammarion until they reprint it, I'm in it. I would LOVE to own it, now I have to check it out from the library...

one of the only serious books about GREEN tea
a pity that this book runned out of stock. a must for every publisher to keep freshly onPress

Coffee Technology
Published in Hardcover by Specialty Coffee Association of America (January, 1979)
Authors: Michael Sivetz and Norman W. Desrosier

Get one fast
Not for novice or beginners, a must have for coffee Experts very technical, the bible of the coffee industry. I feel lucky just to have one.

It doesn't get any better
"Coffee Technology" was the only book I needed when i helped establish a coffee co-op in Haiti. It contained more information on the growing, processing and roasting of coffee than any other source I read (including the famed Urker's book). Not for the coffee beginner but could be used as a teaching and training tool to those new in the business. Highly Recommended!

This book is a coffee engineer companion
Coffee Technology was written in 1963, it contains all the wealth of experience gathered by Mr. Sivetz, a chemical engineer and coffee consultant, while designing, installing, and starting up coffe processing plants all over the world. The subjects covered range from drying the grain, psychrometric charts, roasting coffee, percolation, aromatizing soluble coffee, packaging roast coffee. All subjects are covered in depth in a "Theory and Practice" format where the process is analized with formulas for pressure drop, temperature and pressure changes, mass flow and later, experimental results are provided. Allthough it was written over 27 years ago, the information is valid because the markets for coffee change but the physics of the process is the same.

Cooking With Green Tea

An Excellent Guide!
This cookbook is great--not only allowing one to enjoy the taste and the benefits of green tea, but also to experience healthy and delicious foods! I must admit, I always thought of Asian food as a difficult cuisine to prepare at home--but these recipes are easy to follow, and I had great results!

Cooking with Green tea is TAS"TEA"!
I have tried cooking with many different teas - its like having little seasonings in a convient packet. I was pleased to find a book that focused on Green Tea - especially because of Green Teas health benefits. The receipes are easy and fast, and most of all extremely tastey! I did try the 3-day green tea diet/cleansing & found it very easy as well as refreshing! I had a lot of entergy afterwards. The Green Tea vegetable soup is one of my favorites! I highly recommend the spring rolls and cold noodles in peanut sauce. Easy recipes with great taste that are good for you! [...]

YUM!!!! What a great cookbook!
I've been a fan of green tea for a long time, but I had no idea what a difference it can make in cooking! These recipes are simple, and there's a lot of variety -- everything from sauces and appetizers to entrees and desserts. The ones I've tried so far have worked out great. The author's commentary puts each dish in an interesting and useful context (health, cultural, etc.) If you're looking for a fun, interesting, and accessible collection of new dishes to try, I recommend this book!

Easiest and Best Coffee Cakes and Quick Breads: Great Breads and Cakes to Stir and Bake
Published in Paperback by Royal House Pub Co (September, 1985)
Author: Renny Darling
Average review score:

Easiest & Best Coffee Cakes & Quick Breads by Renny Darling
This is, by far, the most treasured cookbook in my collection. I have tried nearly every recipe in the book, and they are all excellent. I bake regularly for my family and friends, and have a reputation as being a "fantastic" baker, and it's all because of Renny Darling's fabulous recipes. The instructions are clear, easy to read and follow, and the outcome is always perfect. There are wonderful recipes for banana breads, cranberry breads, pumpkin breads, as well as cakes, muffins, and scones. Renny also indicates how to change cooking time to adapt quick bread recipes to muffins, or cakes and vice versa. You will not be disappointed in this "Cake Bible."

A treasure book of luscious treats
I had never heard of Renny Darling before my husband brought this book home to me as a gift for our first wedding anniversary. That was over five years ago, and I continue to use this cookbook for sweet treats more than any other baking/dessert cookbook I own. Darling's philosophy is that baking is a labor of love, but in this book, as she says in her introduction, she has taken out the labor--these recipes really ARE easy to make, and use ingredients that are simple, not impossible to find. This cookbook has no photographs in it, but they aren't needed! Just casually perusing the book will get you inspired to start baking! Darling includes muffins, lots of quick breads and coffee cakes, and also some more sophisticated tortes which are still quite easy to prepare. If you like to bake at all, you must have this cookbook in your collection--you will not regret buying it!

This is the cookbook I use to prepare all of our family's birthday cakes, and I have also obtained my "signature" banana bread recipe from it: Sour Cream Banana Bread with Chocolate Glaze. I have made it almost a dozen times, and love to give it away to friends and neighbors, who always rave about it and often request the recipe for themselves. The book includes lots of easy glazes, icings and other toppings which are so quick to prepare and make the products seem so extra-special. Among my other favorites are: Chocolate Pumpkin Pecan Cake, Fresh Apple Sour Cream Cake, Spiced Carrot and Orange Bread, and Danish Apple Strudel.

Easiest and Best is truly easiest and best!!!!!
I love baking and have hundreds of cookbooks to prove it. I have all kinds of books that are supposed to "baking bibles" with intricate instructions on how to bake perfect cakes. But since I bought this book, I have barely opened the others. The methods in this book are so simple and the results are so moist and delicious that you almost feel as if you cheated. This is a must have for bakers of all skill levels.

Fortune in a Coffee Cup: Divination With Coffee Grounds
Published in Paperback by Llewellyn Publications (June, 1999)
Author: Sophia
Average review score:

a fun read
This is another book I bought when I thought it would be fun to have a tea leaf or coffee ground reading party. It was easy to read and gave a lot of information. When I was younger, I had a landlady who would read my coffee grounds and it was kind of fun, and a lot of times uncannily accurate, but I could never do it as well as she could, so I thought maybe getting some books would be fun. I would recommend this as something to do for fun or entertaining but not something to rule your life. People have enjoyed reading tea leaves and coffee grounds for years. To be able to this very well, you (I did anyway) need to practice quite a bit so that you can read the cup in a story telling way. Have fun.

Fun, Exciting, Easy and Accurate way to tell fortunes!!!
Like most Americans, Im a coffee addict and cant start my morning without a nice cup of good coffee. This book caught my eye ,because of my love of java, and boy, is it neat (as are Sophia's other books!!!) Now I can spend my coffeebreaks checking out how the rest of my day is going to go! The system is very simple (if you can daydream, you can tell fortunes with coffee grounds) and anyone can do it. I and a bunch of coworkers at the office sit around at breaks and do eachother's fortunes- and I take it to coffee shops and am instantly popular! Everyone want's to try it! Why sit and gossip at Starbucks when you can tell fortunes?- Ive met some great people that way! A fun party book, cheer-a-friend up book or thank you gift- very highly recommended- and it fits in your purse!!! Love it.

pretty good
for those interested in reading coffee grounds, this book is a pretty good beginner. it has a "dictionary" of symbols that one finds in the coffee grounds, it gives a brief biography of the author and tells you how to open yourself to this form of divination....

Perfect Cup: A Coffee Lover's Guide to Buying, Brewing and Tasting
Published in Paperback by Perseus Publishing (May, 1991)
Author: Timothy James Castle
Average review score:

Very helpful book
I highly recommend this book. I bought it as someone just getting into enjoying the coffee experience. I wanted a book that would help me learn more about brewing coffee, tasting, and what to expect from beans grown in the different areas of the world. It gave me the info. I was looking for. I also really enjoyed the section in which several coffee roasters across the US were interviewed about their roasting philosophies and what to them helped create that elusive perfect cup of coffee.

the perfect coffee book
years ago(before Starbucks bought the world) Boston had a local chain called the Coffee Connection. Their blends were perfect, their roasts were done by an old central american master and all of their employees were coffee lovers who could tell you details on any bean (once again, pre starbucks and the "we'll hire anyone" policy). I once asked how they knew so much and was told that employees were required to read this book. Somehow I lost my original copy ... so glad to see Amazon making it available again.

¿The perfect¿ coffee book
If you have ever had a cup of coffee - this book is a must!

From the history of the first coffee plantation, roasting, brewing, tasting, recipes and even traditions of coffee traders are all mentioned in the well-written book. The writer writes in plain and very humorous English.

I'm in the coffee trading business myself, and this is one of the most accurate and interesting books about the whole coffee business as I have read up to now. The book also mentions coffee estates, retailers and roasters by name.

A definite 10 out of 10!

Tea Basics : A Quick and Easy Guide
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (November, 1998)
Authors: Wendy Rasmussen and Ric Rhinehart
Average review score:

tea time
I absolutely was intrigued by this book, read while sipping a cup of tea. My favorite teas are Republic of Tea, I'd recommend those as well! I liked learning about "TGBOP", Oolong teas, how to brew teas, teas from different countries, etc. I am by no means a tea snob, just a tea lover. This book is great for tea drinkers of any kind.

A Quick and Easy (and Fun) Guide!
A good book for the beginner, a nice and easy read for everyone interested in tea. The authors accomplish to talk about tea (origins, history, manufacture, types, how to purchase, taste, brew, etc.), to deal with "controversial" topics such as the use of teabags, and to communicate their personal tastes and views, without drifting off into snobism.

All in all, an enjoyable read written by people with obvious love for tea.

Perfect for the Tea Beginner
This book impressed me. It is easy to read, has a personal feel, and covers all of the basics (what tea is, history, where it is produced, how to brew it, tea tasting, tea ceremonies, etc). Many resources are listed in the back. I have five books on tea so far (a beginner), and this is my favorite. If you only want one book on tea, this is my recommendation. The health section is pretty basic, so if that interests you, you might want to also look at a health-related tea book (green tea). This book describes the general regions, whereas the Tea Companion book describes the individual tea gardens (which may or may not be useful to you.)
